Aleksandra Romanić

Aleksandra Romanić is one of the most renowned Yugoslavian pianists.

Born in Zagreb in 1958, after completing the Music High School in Sarajevo with Farida Musanovic, she was awarded a scholarschip to study at the Moscow Tchaikowsky Conservatory with Vera Gornostaeva, where she graduatet “summa cum laude”. After obtaining her Masters Degree at the same Conservatory, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to specialise with Gyorgy Sandor at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, N.Y.

Several awards by piano competitions opened her a worldwide career: she toured with recitals and orchestras throughout Spain, France, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Malta, Russia, Germany and the USA, she performed in New York, Pittsburgh, Moscow, Paris, Sevilla, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Belgrad und Sarajevo.

A celebrated artist in her country, she played annualy with major orchestras of her land: Zagreb Philharmony, Zagreb Symphony, Ljubljana Symphony, Belgrad Philharmony, Belgrad RTB Symphony, Sarajevo Philharmony, Sarajevo RTS Symphony, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra.

She has been heard at music festivals such as Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Interforum Budapest, Maltafest, Zagreb Summer, Festival Ljubljana, her concerts been broadcast freqently on radio and television in ex-Yugoslavia, Russia and the USA and she recorded for Discoton Records.

In 1990 she was honored with the highest Award of Town Sarajevo for her cultural achievement.

As a professor for piano at the Music Academy, University of Sarajevo, she conducted master classes at several Universities in the USA, at the International Summer Masterclass at Valletta, Malta, gave lectures at the Music Academy, University of Zagreb and at Trinity College, University of Dublin.

She was playing at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Richard-Strauss-Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Eric Satie Festival in Arcueil, she has given recitals in Herkulessaal Munich and freqently in Gasteig Munich. She played with Münchner Symphoniker, performed chamber music with soloists of the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and made several productions for the Bayerische Rundfunk and the Largo Records.

Aleksandra Romanic lives in Munich.

From 2004 to 2016 she was elected a Member of the Foreign Counsel of the Town Munich, conducting the Committee for Culture, Religion and Sport. For her efforts in integration of foreigners she was 2010 honoured with “München dankt” award.

Students of Aleksandra Romanic are nowdays Lecturers and Professors at Universities in Europe and the USA. She is a member of Jury bei several national and international piano competitions in countries of former Yugoslavia and Germany.
